Homeschool Homecoming in North Carolina

A formal fall homecoming dance created for homeschool students and their friends across North Carolina.

Homeschool students do not have a school of their own to throw homecoming, so families build one together. NC Local Events has hosted a homeschool homecoming dance in North Carolina every fall since 2023, giving students the same milestone night their public and private school friends get, in an environment parents helped shape and trust.

What is a homeschool homecoming?

A homeschool homecoming is a formal fall dance for homeschool students, held the way a traditional school homecoming is but organized by a homeschool community instead of a single school. Students dress up, dance to clean music, take photos, and celebrate the season with friends from across their area.

How a homeschool homecoming is different

A school homecoming is tied to one school and its football season. A homeschool homecoming is built by parents and homeschool families, so it draws students from many co-ops, churches, and neighborhoods rather than a single student body. That wider reach is part of the fun: students see old friends and meet new ones from across the region. It also means the music, dress code, chaperoning, and atmosphere are set by the families who attend, not inherited from a school's culture.

Our story

Why homeschool families host homecoming

In the spring of 2022, several North Carolina homeschool families decided their students should not have to miss out on the milestone dances that public and private schools host. They threw their own homecoming. It was such a success that they did it again, and NC Local Events grew from there. Today its events regularly sell more than 200 tickets, and several have sold out smaller venues and moved to larger ones to fit everyone.

Homecoming is where this organization began, and the reason is simple. Getting dressed up, dancing with friends, and capturing photos from a special night is a memory students carry for years. Homeschool families want that memory for their kids without sending them into an environment they do not trust. A homeschool homecoming gives them both.

Who can attend

NC Local Events homecomings are open to all homeschool students and their friends, usually ages 14 to 19. Students do not have to be homeschooled to come along with a homeschool friend. Families travel from across the Triad, the Triangle, and the wider North Carolina homeschool community to attend, so the room is full of new faces as well as familiar ones.

What to expect at the dance

Expect a formal evening with a professional DJ playing clean, radio-edit music, chaperones and security throughout the night, snacks and cold drinks, a photo booth, themed decor, and a clear, modest dress code. Recent homecomings have used early-bird pricing, often in the $50 to $70 per-student range, with the lower price ending on a set date. The exact price, venue, and age range are always listed on the current event page.

The dress code is formal. Gentlemen wear a suit or tuxedo with a button-down shirt tucked in, and ladies wear modest formal wear that meets our neckline, back, and length guidelines. You can read the full dress code on our policies page.

Faith-based by design

NC Local Events is a Christian, faith-based organization, and our homecomings reflect that in practical ways: clean music with no profanity, a modest dress code, chaperones and security at every event, and a warm, respectful atmosphere parents can feel good about. Students of any background are welcome.
