Winston-Salem's dance history

Our Winston-Salem history includes two different kinds of dance at Statler Heights. One brought dads and daughters together. The other invited students to learn line dancing. These were separate events, with their own themes and age rules.

Snow Ball: Father-Daughter Dance

Saturday, March 2, 2024
Statler Heights, Winston-Salem

The Snow Ball was a father-daughter dance for father figures and daughters of all ages. It offered a family night out rather than a student prom. Its original page keeps the date, venue, and event details.

Places for photos

Prefer photos before the dance? These Winston-Salem settings have their own portrait rules, so choose the spot along with your group size.

  • Reynolda

    100 Reynolda Village, Winston-Salem

Gardens and village scenery for formal portraits. Seasonal prom and homecoming sessions require a booking and fee, with up to six people plus a photographer.

  • Old Salem

Visitor center: 900 Old Salem Road, Winston-Salem

Historic streets and the Heritage Bridge offer a different backdrop. Old Salem discourages large prom groups during museum hours; read its photography policy for property and session limits.

Find your outfit

Hanes Mall has options for both a formal dress and a rented suit or tuxedo, making it one place to compare styles in person.

Gentlemen: Suit or tuxedo with button-down shirts tucked in.

Ladies: Modest formal wear. No deep, plunging backs or revealing, deeply plunging necklines. Strapless is acceptable as long as the neckline/back requirements are met. Dress length must reach fingertips with arms relaxed at the sides; no inappropriately short dresses.

  • Windsor at Hanes Mall

    3320 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem

A place to try on formal and prom dresses, then compare shoes and accessories.

  • VIP Formal Wear

    Hanes Mall, Winston-Salem

Suit and tuxedo rentals for prom and other formal events. The store can help you compare a complete look and discuss sizing.

Read the full dress code and attendee policies. Ask the shop about current stock, fittings and alteration appointments.

Dinner before the dance

If your group wants dinner in Winston-Salem before heading to the venue, these are two options near home. The dance may be in another Triad city.

  • Village Tavern

    2000 Griffith Road, Winston-Salem

Thursday service starts at 11am, with a broad menu for different tastes. Its location page has the menu and a reservation link.

  • Fratellis Italian Steakhouse

    2000 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem

Thursday service starts at 4pm, with pasta and steaks for a formal evening. Browse the menu and reservation options on the restaurant's site.

Homecoming 2026 and Prom 2027 include snacks and cold drinks, but dinner is not included. Check current menus, hours and table availability with the restaurant.

Your first dance

Do I need a date?
No. Come on your own, with a date, or with a group of friends. Students do not have to be homeschooled; follow the event's age and ticket rules.
What happens after my ticket is scanned?
Once you're checked in, join your friends for the evening. Dancing, the photo booth, snacks and cold drinks are part of both announced dances.
What if I'm nervous about dancing?
Start with a song you like, or spend some time taking photos with friends. A professional DJ plays clean, radio-edit music, with snacks and drinks for a break between songs.

No date is required. Students may come on their own, as couples, or with groups of friends, including large groups. Every student must meet the dance's age and ticket rules.

  1. Save each QR-code ticket. Check-in scans the ticket for each student. No student is admitted without a ticket.
  2. Use the advertised start time. Entry to the event area begins at that exact time. Homecoming 2026 and Prom 2027 both start at 7:00pm.
  3. Drop-off options. Parents may drop students off, or students may drive themselves. Drop-off and pickup can happen during the event.
  4. Check the event's end time. Music stops at that exact time, and students begin leaving. Homecoming 2026 and Prom 2027 both end at 11:00pm.

Our dances are Christian and faith-based, with clean, radio-edit music, chaperones, and security. Students of any background are welcome within each event's age rules.
